The Global Network and International Card Services (GNICS) Card Services organization partners with banks and financial institutions to issue cards and to acquire merchants on the American Express network. Through these partnerships, GNICS increases the number of American Express cards in the markets, enhances merchant coverage, and provides exciting and innovative new products around the world. This position is responsible for leading and further developing the GNICS business across a number of partnerships in EMEA, primarily in Central Eastern Europe (CEE) and also for prospecting and developing new partnerships in relevant markets. This individual will be responsible for delivering Contribution Margin, Billed Business and Cards-in-Force related goals, as part of their P&L ownership responsibilities and for working with Marketing and other colleagues to develop winning consumer and commercial card value propositions, to secure new business opportunities, to develop loyalty and benefits platform strategies and to optimize existing portfolio performance.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Driving Business Results in assigned markets with key focus on Bulgaria, Romania and Montenegro and potentially one other market (to be decided)
- Accountability for delivering across all key business metrics including New Cards Acquired, Attrition, Billings, Revenue, Expense, Contribution Margin
- Provide strategic thought leadership and relationship expertise to develop new business opportunities and further grow our strategic and tenured relationships

Support the critical development of network changes and strategies to comply with changing regulatory requirements across the EU. This work is part of a wider initiative across the organization and will require support for up to 2 years and is likely to take up to 50% of the time during Y1.
- Manage contractual re-negotiations under the influence of increasingly complex external factors, in particular the regulatory factors
- Ensure that AXP’s business model remains differentiated versus others
- Assist partners in adjusting to the revised framework in their market, whilst continuing to grow sector share

Product and Loyalty Platform Benefits Development:
- Drive and execute new product development activities within the consumer and commercial card product arena
- Provide innovative thinking to support the development of the loyalty and benefits platform strategy for current or new partner banks

Portfolio Management:
- Identify and drive implementation of portfolio optimisation opportunities by partnering with GNICS Partner Advantage teams to bring unique American Express experience to play with our partner banks
- Manage the partnership strategic investment fund to support portfolio optimisation initiatives

Leadership/Relationship:
- Develop strong relationships with key decision makers and influencers within the partners’ or prospect banks’ organisations
- Develop strong relationships with internal colleagues and ability to influence without direct authority
- Ability to successfully deliver results in a matrix organization
- Strong customer focus

Transformation:
- Provide strategic thought leadership and relationship expertise to develop new business opportunities and further grow our strategic relationships
- Continuously identify and develop new business/growth opportunities including prepaid, mobile/alternative payments and new consumer segments with existing and new potential partners.

Qualifications
- Very deep knowledge of both the industry and, in particular, the American Express network operating models and how these models are unique; including a deep understanding of the external factors and upcoming regulatory changes and ability to adapt business models and partner contracts accordingly
- Extensive experience of working with Partners on Co-branded card products
- Proven business development skills and an experience in structuring financial and other incentives to support the organisation’s business goals whilst also meeting the needs of our partner banks
- Strong loyalty experience, particularly in the airline rewards space, and ability to support partners and prospects in building best in class rewards-based products
- Excellent relationship skills to interact at all levels across partner organisations
- Proven ability to create winning strategies
- Highly resilient, ability to drive results in challenging business environment
- Excellent card industry and competitive knowledge across issuing and acquiring
- Strong influencing skills to promote products, services and ideas to the partner
- Uses understanding of cultural differences to influence actions and decisions
- Highly analytical and numerical, ability to clearly communicate complex issues
- Proven experience of working with and gaining insight and commercial value from Big Data.
- Ability to manage and see delivery of complex projects through to an end.
- Financial acumen and ability to drive & deliver results
- Excellent communication skills and ability to create and deliver persuasive and high impact presentations
- Able to lead internal and external resources to deliver against key initiatives.
