| IBM is seeking Application Architects and Infrastructure
Architects, or individuals that span applications and infrastructure
that can operate as Enterprise Architects. Application Architects design applications that automate business processes and meet business needs. The resulting design may run on multiple platforms and may be composed of multiple software packages and custom components. This role defines best practices in the critical evaluation and selection and / or development of the software components and hardware requirements of the applications and data, and the development of the application, including evaluation and selection of development methods, development processes, best practices and tools. Applications Architects are responsible for applications-related quality, performance, availability, scalability, and integrity. They are also responsible for the functional interface to applications and for ensuring application usability. You will be responsible for the planning, architecture, high level design and implementation of one or more of the following aspects of the application architecture for a client project: • Service Oriented Architectures • J2EE Applications • Enterprise Integration For your area of responsibility, your role will include: • Defining the technical architecture ‘vision’ and design principles • Planning, design and implementation of complex systems architectures • Preparation of the high level application architecture for each release of the solution necessary to meet both functional and non-functional requirements • Creation of/contribution to the detailed design of the architecture to ensure it adheres to the CSFs, objectives and requirements, design principles and target vision for the overall solution • Overseeing the implementation, configuration and testing of the architecture Infrastructure Architects concentrate on the design of infrastructures including servers, storage, workstations, middleware, non-application software, networks, and the physical facilities that support the applications and business processes required by the client. Included in the focus areas is the critical evaluation and selection of the software and hardware components of the infrastructure. Best practices in this role use various techniques including modelling, simulation, and testing to validate the designs and selected products. Infrastructure Architects are responsible for performance, availability and scalability of the infrastructure. You will be responsible for the planning, architecture, high level design and implementation of the technical infrastructure supporting large scale client projects. For your area of responsibility, your role will include: • Defining the overall system shape and building blocks • Defining the Operational Model • Deployment of data and functionality across the infrastructure nodes • Establish with the client the non-functional and technical infrastructure requirements • Produce high-level designs for: networking, hardware configurations, system software and middleware • Define: Performance, Capacity, Scalability, Availability, Recoverability and Systems Management • Define the technical vitality programme People Skills for all architects: Excellent written and verbal communication, interpersonal qualities, leadership, strong team working skills. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
