Technical Specialist I (Job Number: 1311756)

Description

Senior Operator is responsible for the monitoring the operating systems, LINC systems and database issues within our mainframe environment. Open systems monitoring for mainframe integration products. Primary responsibility is the daily and nightly batch processing. A 24x7 Operation Shift system in place, inc Public Holidays. Holidays require cover to be arranged to ensure full shift support at all times which involves a 'fair share' policy regarding overtime cover.

Role
  • System monitoring
  • Backup initiation and monitoring
  • Liaise with users and clients
  • Perform 1 st line support function
  • Understanding of WFL process flows
  • Initiation of ad hoc report processing and business requests
  • Placing calls with Third Party support regarding hardware/software errors
  • Update procedures and troubleshooting documentation
  • Able to troubleshoot to some degree
  • Capable of running system logs and ascertaining root cause
  • Highlight where processes can be improved
  • Highlight unusual behaviour of systems/applications or processes
  • Overseeing printing of internal and external reports
  • Producing documentation
  • Supervised project work
  • Travel to/from DR site
  • Capable of running the overnight batch process
  • Detailed understanding of overnight processing and dependencies
  • Ability to schedule adhoc overnight process requirements
  • Ability to read Work Flow Language and basic script writing abilities
  • Perform Advanced troubleshooting
  • Unsupervised project work
  • Responsible for monitoring and escalation of issues for entire IT suite
  • Responsible for securing data
  • Can handle multiple concurrent issues, and is able to prioritise in accordance to business needs
  • Delegation of tasks
  • Proactive in addressing technical issues, or communicating them to management as required
  • Understanding and manipulation of mainframe disk configuration
  • To concisely report on work in progress, including fault resolution
  • Understand best practices of technology use and pass this information on to team members and higher management as applicable.
  • Work with internal/external staff to find resolution to IT issues.

  • Can handle multiple concurrent issues, and is able to prioritise in accordance to business needs
  • To help support all products, day or night and react to live problems with the highest priority
  • Ensure hand over of work, documentation and product ownership takes place

Qualifications

Technical Knowledge


  • Have a sound knowledge of all environments, and an in depth understanding of the architecture
  • Detailed knowledge of File Transfer Protocol
  • Will have high skill level in one or more specialist areas
  • Able to produce clear and accurate documents for technical teams and operational areas
  • Good knowledge of Windows and Unix Operating system
  • Detailed knowledge of Unisys Libra mainframe and MCP
