My client, a UK leading insurance broker, is looking for a new Head of Compliance Monitoring to establish a compliance monitoring team within their employee benefits business.

This role will give you the chance to set up a monitoring function from the ground up, built the team and manage them on a day to day basis.

My client is looking for someone to create, develop and define the compliance monitoring framework within the business. This will include accountability for the design and establishment of the methodology and approach as well as the management and oversight of a monitoring team. The team will be responsible for the execution of a risk based monitoring programme across the business.

I am looking for someone with the following skills/experience:
  • To currently be running or have recently been in charge of a compliance monitoring function within the employee benefits/insurance industry (essential).
  • To have set up a compliance monitoring function from the ground up – More specifically, I want someone with a clear framework and methodology to do this.
  • To have solid leadership and management experience as well as having experience of building a team.
  • To have strong communication and influencing skills as you will be reporting in senior managers and liaising with the business and other compliance functions.
  • Good working knowledge of current compliance practises and techniques
  • A strong knowledge and experience of working in the employee benefits space (preferred), life & pensions (preferred), insurance, reinsurance, wealth or investment management.

The client is looking for someone to; populate a monitoring universe covering the applicable regulatory environments and policies, develop the monitoring process and create appropriate templates and a method for risk rating the reviews. You will need to oversee the programme execution, maintaining quality control and providing appropriate challenge to the monitoring team. Based on the work performed, identify gaps/deficiencies in the policy and make recommendations for improvements.
My client wants the head of compliance monitoring to share their methodology with regional heads of risk and compliance and act as the centre of excellence for compliance monitoring in the group. I want someone who will work closely with the business units’ senior leaders to ensure that the issues that are identified are clearly understood and that there is commitment to addressing them.

In this role, the job holder will be required to build up their monitoring team and lead & manage them from a technical and knowledge perspective. My client wants the monitoring programme to be updated on a regular basis and for the successful applicant to be up to date with regulatory developments within the insurance and employee benefits space.
