RBC is looking for an experienced Java
Developer to join the team. Must have knowledge of J2EE &
JavaServer Faces. Banking Java experience preferred. Exposure to Oracle
databases an advantage. Nice to have include Spring, EJB, Eclipse &
Maven. Certified Java programmers preffered.
PURPOSE
To provide analytical and technical support and mentoring on applications and projects based on operational, client and market requests. To perform research analysis, design and implementation of business and IT projects in order to enhance competitive edge or reduce costs, liaising with project teams to provide estimates and to support System and User Acceptance testing globally. To provide support and maintain the various systems and to ensure maximum availability for the business users.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
System Development
Liaise with the business to clarify requirements, design, put together a technical solution and document functional and technical specifications including detailed research of report, file and software changes.
Work with the project managers across the business both locally and globally.
Write system design and software specifications to documented standards.
Design and code system solutions to satisfy business requirements, to documented standards.
Maintain and enhance existing software, where necessary integrating in-house software solutions with those supplied by 3rd parties.
Develop and execute unit tests, verifying results against expectations.
Support integration, system and user acceptance testing and verification.
Take direction from the Project Managers at a project level, and mentor colleagues in areas of technical or business expertise.
Work closely with the Project Managers and ensure that they are fully appraised of the project progress.
Production Support
Provide third and final level production support on a 24-hour basis, as dictated by the needs of the business.
Participate in an on-call rota to provide out of hours support as required.
Investigate and resolve production problems on a timely manner, focusing on first time resolution.
Assist with the investigation and testing of changes caused by product change (e.g. new release).
Team Work
Provide support and flexibility to fellow peers and members of project teams globally.
Participate in-group discussion and suggest enhancements to your role and processes where improvement could be gained.
Support key quality and productivity initiatives.
Relationship Management
Maintain productive contacts and relationships with internal business teams, and Change Management both locally and globally whilst creating working relationships.
EXPERIENCE
Essential
SME in JAVA development.
Ability to research, code, test, document and maintain software
Understand and apply the Project Life Cycle to position responsibilities.
Good problem solving and analytical skills
Ability to effectively communicate (written and orally) with clients, operations, staff and management.
Business knowledge of financial institutions, understanding of market product funds, and custody in order to be able to deliver.
Ability to document technical solutions in business terms.
Ability to provide mentoring to colleagues in areas of technical or business expertise.
AUTHORITIES, IMPACT, RISK
Project implementation across geographies.
Development of business solutions in the UK, and supporting project implementation.
3rd line support on global applications would be impacted.
Works with external clients on client integrations and/or production support whilst working with the team to ensure the day to day deliverables (including projects) are managed to their satisfaction.

Solid background in Distributed Object Oriented Techniques, Test Driven Development, Agile Modeling, Design Patterns,J2EE Frameworks like Hibernate, Spring and Struts frameworks.
Extensive usage of UML modeling tools such as Rational Architect, and or Viso.
Having hands on experience in maintaining large production systems through 3rd Line support globally.
Expertise in server-side programming using J2EE Technologies (JSP, Java Servlets, Struts,EJB, JDBC and XML)
Sun Certified Java Programmer and Enterprise Architect.
