Job Summary:

The Senior Desktop Engineer is responsible for coordinating the delivery of and completing technical deliverables on assigned projects 
Delivering on moderate to large size Desktop Engineering or Client projects, reporting directly to the assigned Project Manager or other staff responsible for completing assigned deliverables on large scale global projects
Providing consultancy expertise and business case estimates
Responsible for producing Desktop Engineering deliverables, meeting or exceeding benchmarks for quality and performance in accordance with the project or SLA timelines.    
Responsible for translating detailed requirements and design and solution architecture deliverables into detailed design specifications
Responsible for maintaining effective and consistent communication within the team, within Desktop Management peer teams and with other IT groups. Proactively raising issues to Team Leads when necessary
Provide Level 4 support to operations in the field of expertise
This role reports directly to the Desktop Engineering Team Lead

Essential Functions of the Job:
  • Lead small project teams and subject matter teams as required
  • Act as owner of various desktop and end user software items
  • Develop and deliver desktop delivery systems and solutions
  • Lead global Standard Technology exercises in accordance with Enterprise Architecture methodologies
  • Identify problems and opportunities in relation to relevant EY policies and procedures
  • Maintain adherence to architectural standards/principles, global product-specific guidelines and usability design standards
  • Provide support and documentation to assist in sustaining the project during the transition to production
  • Provide feedback regarding Desktop Engineering methodologies, standards and leading practices
  • Identify potential points of contention for missed activities and notify project leadership of the situation and remediation plans
  • Provide input to Project Manager or Team Lead related to responsible technology
  • Develop presentations that have clarity and impact
  • Produce accurate, brief and clearly written documents tailored to audience needs and expectations
  • Minimise technical exposure and risk on projects
Work closely with: 
  • Customer Portfolio Team to support the business through technology
  • Strategy & Architecture to define and conform to global technology standards
  • Desktop Engineering Global/Team Leads to understand strategic goals/objectives and translate into actionable plans
  • Desktop Engineering Global/Team Leads to successfully implement, use, and monitor BSC initiatives
  • Other Desktop Management teams to build solutions as part of the end-to-end process and to effectively and efficiently support projects during their engineering and transition phases
Analytical/Decision Making Responsibilities:
  • Proactively anticipate project issues before they occur; define the problem, identify  possible causes, work with the team to identify solutions, select and implement the most appropriate solution
  • Apply judgment in implementing Desktop Engineering methodologies, processes and practices to specific requirements of projects/programmes which may include product design engineering, information security, code maintainability and reliability
  • Use sound analytical and problem solving skills needed to manage multiple technical challenges simultaneously
Supervision Responsibilities:
  • Performance a management counsellor role for some more junior members of the team
  • Deputise for the team lead as appropriate
  • Represent Desktop Engineering (and sometimes Desktop management) on Standards and Innovations boards
  • Report to senior management on areas of work and expertise
  • Lead sub-teams on project and subject fields

  

Knowledge and Skills Requirements:
  • Substantial experience in a similar, relevant role
  • Expert technical knowledge in technology specialty area with Intermediate knowledge of complementing infrastructures: Development background and mindset, Windows application development skills in .NET, Understanding and experience of C#, Windows native API knowledge (and use of it through C# and PowerShell), Experience of working with web services, Experience with SQL server as part of application development, Knowledge of AD and LDAP, Optionally OSD/SCCM knowledge, Optionally JScript
  • Solid interpersonal communication and organisational skills required to operate as a contributing member of global technical teams that deliver quality services
  • Strong technical skills designing, documenting, and implementing Desktop projects
  • Ideally, knowledge of the organisational structure of the firm to facilitate work with groups outside of the immediate technical team
  • Strong understanding of Windows OS and core desktop software configuration
  • Good understanding of load set software integration in a Windows environment
  • Maintains awareness of new and emerging technologies and the potential Desktop service offerings and products provided by IT
  • Possesses an understanding of IT Services: service offerings, technical standards and policies, technical and business strategies as well as organisational structure
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
