This position reports into and supports the Director of UK Compensation and Benefits and would be expected to work closely with the Director of Global Retirement.

The primary responsibilities in 3 main areas are as follows:

Defined Benefit Plan
- Support Company discussions with the Trustees of the DB plan for the annual funding valuation
- Support the development of a long-term investment strategy for the DB plan discussions with the Trustees
- Assist and support where required on selected aspects of the administration and management of the DB plan
- Act as a subject matter expert in pension accounting under IFRS and US GAAP to support Finance and Controllership for reporting purposes
- Liaise and work together with NY to support the reporting needs for the Benefits and Pension Investment Committee (BPIC) in respect of the DB Plan

Defined Contribution Plan

Lead UK DC pension plan design and strategy including:
- Ensure design is competitive with market practice and compliant with legislation
- Manage and ensure plan provider continue to be appropriate and of a high quality provider
- Provide input and help to develop the UK C&B strategy from a pension perspective
- Lead and support UK DC pension plan governance committee
- Managing day to day administration, processes and issues relating to the DC pension plan
- Develop financial education programs to increase employee engagement for saving and financial planning
- Develop and execute pension communication materials for employees
- Provide input and support the annual flexible benefit enrolment and any ongoing/ad-hoc assistance from a pension perspective Management and other activities
- Support UK pension activities on M&A or TUPE transactions
- Provide support for international transferees into and out of the UK on pension issues

Ensure compliance with all American Express and legislative requirements including:
- Vendor management
- Technology governance
- Global retirement governance review
- Support with the management of the pension admin budget and consulting spend – working closely with the C&B Finance support
- Promote and maintain links with external bodies and company peer groups

This position will interact with members of the Global Compensation & Benefits team, as well as members of the General Counsel Office (GCO), HR functional and relationship staff, Finance staff and the external marketplace.

Qualifications
- The individual selected for this position requires strong experience and knowledge in the UK pension market.
- Candidate must have excellent analytical and project management skills, as well as strong communication and relationship skills.
- Candidate must be result driven and able to work effectively with a cross functional team.
- Candidate must have as a minimum a Bachelor’s degree in a related field such as Economics, Finance, Mathematics, Actuarial Science etc with a preference for those with pension related qualifications such as PMI etc.
- Preference will be given to candidates with a broad range of UK pension experience gained from working for large organizations like American Express or in a consultancy environment.
