Job Location: Cork, Ireland
This position reports to a Group Purchasing Manager, Purchasing Supervisor or a Purchasing Manager. Responsible for placing purchase orders and working with appropriate organizations for new and existing materials, goods and services. Must control costs of purchased materials by ensuring the lowest total cost initiatives are followed within the supply base and by understanding the supplier's pipeline and purchasing strategies.
- Manage cost of purchased materials against current standard cost. The Senior Buyer will support the total cost reduction (SPOT) program within their commodity areas. Demonstrate advanced knowledge of financial and business analysis for support in cost data queries within the supply base.
- Participate, organize or lead cross-functional teams and demonstrate the ability to develop and foster cooperative relationships. Actively participate on Kaizen events focused on product pull within the supply base. Execute short and long range commodity goals and participate in establishing global strategies within the Commodity Management Teams.
- Ability to analyze situations accurately and develop effective courses of action. Manage internal requirements, specifications, quality, delivery, cost, and risk requirements need to be understood. As required, review invoices with accounts payable when price or terms do not agree with the purchase order. Accomplish assignments and meet goals in a professional and timely manner in a stressful environment. Place purchase orders to meet production schedules, while managing supplier's performance to scheduled requirements.
- Possess intermediate knowledge within their commodity area(s) by conducting supplier business reviews, visiting suppliers, gaining process knowledge and investigating information on new technologies within their commodity base. . Keep abreast of changing trends in prices and availability of materials and services. Manage Purchasing role in supporting EMC technology plans and requirements for New Product Introductions and manage end of life to ensure smooth transitions with a minimal amount of excess and obsolete product. Communicate ECO's, establishes affectivity dates, collects and reports cost impact information. Employ basic Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing tools when examining or re-engineering processes and procedures. Analyzes and manages data from the BRM, MRP, Kanban Calculator, NPI requirements and other various lean tools used to support the Availability Plan.
- Demonstrate high level of transactional knowledge with Oracle Purchasing, manage the data integrity within assigned commodities and proficient in use of e-Procurement tools such as supplier portals and on-line auctions. Demonstrate leadership and interpersonal skills required to build strong teams, operate cross functionally and present ideas logically and articulately.
- Manage inventory within the supply base to ensure timely availability of both new and repair products. Manages the most effective returns process and costs for defective materials. Proactively ensure the supply base is managing kanban material levels of finished goods inventories at the supplier, in hubs, or in consignment stocking locations.
- Ability to work with minimal structure and possess a high level of creativity. Communicates to suppliers the needs and expectations of EMC and provides feedback to the suppliers regarding their performance. Position requires interaction with other internal groups concerning material availability issues, technical matters, conveying ideas, and recommending possible solutions to problems.
- Responsible for placing purchase orders for new and existing production or non-production materials, goods or services. Identify and develop qualified suppliers as appropriate.. Position responsibilities will include: issuance of schedules to suppliers, attendance at conference calls, escalation of issues on parts to the availability group and work with them for resolution. Monitor capacity at the supplier and interact with the responsible Commodity Specialist for capacity issues and support the Commodity Management Teams.. Develop and maintain material planning programs to include buffer stocking strategies that will assure a consistent and satisfactory response to requirements. Support supplier evaluations, qualification process and new product introduction process while minimizing existing product exposure. Manage Excess and Obsolete material process. Drive continuous improvement process with regard to cost and lead-time reductions, inventory strategies and system enhancements.
