This Manager position is within the Chief Privacy Office Global Privacy Team, and will report to the Vice President responsible for Global Privacy Risk Oversight and International Privacy. The position is located in London. Privacy is a key contributor to loyalty, customer experience, and the American Express brand. A successful candidate will be a privacy subject matter expert and keep current on industry activities and emerging technologies. It is important for the candidate to be a strong team player who is comfortable interacting with legal, compliance, information security, public affairs and many other partners to promote privacy throughout the enterprise.

The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing advice and expertise on the identification, assessment and reporting of privacy risk across the enterprise – and oversight of privacy risk assessment methodologies to ensure consistency;
- Working with the global privacy team to address and propose privacy risk mitigation projects and strategies;
- Supporting privacy matters across the DPOs, including working with the DPOs in drafting and maintaining Market Privacy Policies and overseeing legal/regulatory change management;
- Leading, in conjunction with the Global Privacy Team, the development, coordination and implementation of American Express’ global privacy program in individual markets;
- Driving effective management and implementation of global or cross-market privacy projects and initiatives (providing leadership on the strategy/approach);
- Educating the business and other staff groups on privacy risk identification and management through training, awareness and communication activities;
- Fostering a culture of privacy at American Express by advocating for privacy-by-design, integration of the American Express Data Protection & Privacy Principles, accountability and the sharing of best practices.

Qualifications
- Experience in privacy compliance and/or risk management and oversight required, and familiarity with developing operational risk controls highly desired
- Understanding of privacy legal and regulatory within Europe highly desired
- Experience at a financial services company preferred
- Highly organized and superb writing/communication skills required
- Leadership skills with ability to build relationships, mobilize cross functional teams and work independently in a highly matrixed organization highly desired
- Knowledge in digital technologies and the online space (e.g. social media, cookies, mobile apps, Big Data, alternative payments), with particular focus on how these technologies are used to collect, use and/or share information preferred
- Understanding of, or interest in, privacy legal/regulatory requirements globally preferred
- Strong project management skills with proficiency in managing multiple projects simultaneously required
- Relevant professional qualifications preferred, e.g. LLB or LLM, JD, Master’s degree in Public Policy or equivalent, Certified International Privacy Professional (CIPP) certification
- Intellectual curiosity – looking to grow and progress at American Express.
