The Cell Leader will effectively manage their dedicated Cell area of the Newcastle plant. The Cell Leader will be fully responsible for the day-to-day management of the production areas whilst leading the development and implementation of manufacturing improvements to ensure a consistent and strong performance from the Production Operation in line with Operating Plan. Where required the Cell Leader will represent GE Wellstream in dealings with customers and suppliers.
There are 3 Cell Leader positions within the Newcastle Plant.
Candidates are encouraged to identify which skill set they believe best fits the following areas:
  • Modern heavy industry assembly techniques
  • Metal forming/rotation equipment
  • Polymer extrusion, preferably in pipe manufacturing.
Duties include the following, although other duties may be assigned:
  • Actively support and engage in all EHS activity, Company policies and procedures to ensure staff are fully compliant
  • Develop and maintain a safe workplace for all employees and contractors
  • Drive a relentless focus on the cost of quality and adherence to the QMS - Ensure 100% compliance to Quality Control & Quality Assurance
  • Direct the Production Strategy in order to maintain maximum throughput of the work centres in line with Lean Manufacturing Best Practice Principles - Connect strategy to purpose and break down key components to communicate to, and drive through the work centre teams
  • In collaboration with the projects and engineering function, create and implement best-in-class design to manufacture and change management processes
  • Develop and maintain systems for effective monitoring and improvement of skills and competencies along with the development of training plans - Ensure all employees are trained & competent for all tasks undertaken
  • Develop, monitor and report on performance against KPIs - Focusing on operational efficiency and effectiveness to optimise performance
  • Strict budgetary control for the relevant cost centres
  • Develop and drive continuous improvement programmes for all areas of performance including EHS, Quality and Throughput
  • Implement effective risk management
  • Effective leadership of all employees in the areas of responsibility, ensuring effective and efficient deployment and utilisation of all resources
  • Effective management of capital expenditure and maintenance of plant and equipment
  • Participate in Lean Development programme utilising Lean Techniques, identify opportunities to improve overall production performance activity
  • Take a leadership role on promoting cross functional reviews and provide support as required
    Compliance with all relevant policies.
  • Extensive experience in production management within Heavy Industry
  • An excellent knowledge of best practice manufacturing methods and techniques
  • Proven track record of Change Management
  • Sound Leadership experience within similar environments
  • A relentless orientation towards safety and quality
  • A solid background in technical and hands on medium-heavy engineering
  • Chartered Engineer status would be advantageous.

Have a keen appreciation of the technology and engineering behind the products and materials
  • Have a proven ‘can-do’ orientation to work with demonstrable problem solving skills - Able to determine and improve process problems
  • A proven ability to manage an organised workforce within and across areas of responsibility
    Ability to effectively communicate at all levels both internally and externally including with customers and suppliers
  • Ability to effectively manage costs and control budgets
  • Be an effective team member demonstrating both leadership and coaching skills
  • Ability to prepare and deliver presentations at all levels
  • Ability to motivate and develop and manage people.
