The subsea oil & gas industry has grown significantly over the last 30 years and GE Subsea Controls retains a leading market share for life-of-field control of subsea oil/gas production facilities.
The ‘Senior Product Manager - Subsea Industrial Internet Applications’ reports to the Product Director for Subsea Controls and will provide the focus, vision and leadership required to enhance the scope of our products within this growing area of the subsea oil & gas market.
In particular we expect the Senior Product Manager to:
  • Identify the key client drivers for & benefits from this type of technology
  • Assess the embryonic capability within GE (inside the Subsea Controls Team and for the wider GE Oil & Gas product groups) to provide key components & technology which can be exploited in these applications
  • Articulate the gap between client needs and current capability
  • Formulate development plans and multi-generation product plans to advance the legitimate ownership for GE of a significant share of the total available market
  • Working with a “Subsea Integrity Leader” for the GE Oil & Gas Measurement & Control team) propose how the joint competences are to be optimally deployed to achieve these goals.
The key responsibility for this role is product strategy & execution, with the key metrics being related to market share and CM%. The salient responsibilities are as follows:
  1. Work with the Product Director and Asset Integrity Leader, to identify opportunities for the cross-pollination of products within the GE Oil & Gas portfolio, to provide a higher-level value proposition for our customers;
  2. Work with other companies in the GE Oil & Gas portfolio to build an integrated product/service in:
    • Asset integrity management and condition monitoring of equipment
    • Production efficiency: uptime and availability of assets
    • Production optimisation across a multi-well subsea field
    • Enhanced hydrocarbon recovery (from the total reserves in place)
  3. Clearly identify features and performance characteristics to meet the required drivers and customer value proposition;
  4. Help define the product and system architecture to provide practical and elegant solutions to the product/service;
  5. Work cross functionally with Engineering, Sourcing, Quality, Manufacturing & Services staff to identify how to bring products to market and manage for optimal CM and OTD;
  6. Formulate and manage the necessary budgets for multi-year NPI business cases relating to subsea controls;
  7. Ensure that product development (NPI / NTI) is executed in such a way as to maximise the effectiveness of the Company expenditure in this area, whilst meeting the schedule that is required to bring the products to market and meeting all of the identified technical requirements;
  8. Formulate a Cyber Security strategy for subsea controls and ownership of the budget and tactical implementation of that strategy;
  9. Support the Marketing Communications efforts in the Company to discriminate our products and added value services from our competitors ( based on a sound understanding of our competitor product capabilities and their product positioning in a competitive market place) – including, ensuring that the GE Oil & Gas Global Sales force are provided with sufficient high class marketing material to respond to customer opportunities, and to support that Sales Force at the Client interface (Sales presentations, technical meetings etc);
  10. As part of our efforts to discriminate and differentiate the GE subsea products, identify client Conference & Seminar opportunities and initiate presentations, technical papers, articles, etc., to use on these occasions; specifically to approve that such public domain material is aligned to our product Strategy before published;
  11. Work with the Product Director to identify customer meetings, technology seminars, industry forums and participation in relevant development of international standards.
  • Work closely with the tender application engineers in choosing a product feature/service combination which maximises the opportunity to win new business when compiling Tenders in response to client ITT/RFQ’s;
  • Communicate directly with the Subsea Services team to ensure that the life-of-field service provided to support customers is commensurate with representing and maintaining a market leading position and with the excellence of the Company’s’ deliveries as an OEM;
  • Work with the Product Director to identify adjacent market opportunities and those applicable to vertical integration.
Key Competencies
It is expected that the Senior Product Manager will have a strong control systems background and, if not already a subsea domain expert, has the capability to be a domain expert in a short period of time, which is essential to support the company’s dialogue and interaction at the customer interface and to adequately articulate the value proposition and unique selling proposition for the GE products.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering, ideally in software systems engineering or industrial networking, or relevant experience.
  • Business experience in Industrial organisations
  • Detailed understanding and experience in control systems engineering
  • Detailed understanding of subsea oil & gas equipment with substantial industry and product knowledge is preferred
  • An appreciation of Flow Assurance will be of benefit.
  • Experience with petro-chemical industries Process Control technologies will be an added advantage
  • Excellent presentation and written skills, to enable clear and concise delivery of information to senior staff, customers and contractors.
  • The ability to demonstrate and argue the technical case for or against products / systems in order to minimise technical and commercial risk within the company’s strategic objectives.
  • The ability to write a product business case to ascertain value proposition, internal drivers, competitive landscape, financial returns and investment required.
  • Demonstration of a readiness to make decisions, take the initiative and originate action. Results will be measured against key platform metrics.
  • Demonstration of good team working abilities with the ability to arrange and manage events involving various teams.
  • Provide leadership and manage interfaces as required to deliver objectives. Clear and considered communication with the functional organization is key.
  • The ability to maintain customer focus.
