The Software Test Engineer will work within the Software Development Team. The Engineer may be required to work on one or more projects concurrently as agreed by the Software Team Manager. The position holds the responsibility for the development and maintenance of test plans and supporting documentation ensuring all project technical requirements are suitably tested. Provide feedback to the lead software engineer and Software Quality Team to improve testing.
  • Develop and maintain test plans to ensure that all project technical requirements are suitably tested. 
  • Identification of technical, schedule and commercial risks. 
  • Reviewing of the Software Products Requirements, Design and Interface Specifications. 
  • Preparation and reviewing of Test Requirements for specific software applications/units to standards as defined within the Codes of Practice. 
  • Ensuring that Test Specifications comply with the contractual safety standards. 
  • Attend project close-out meetings/lessons learned. 
  • Conduct qualification testing of new products and/or fault diagnosis of returned products in the Engineering laboratory. 
  • Interpretation of contractual & requirements information. 
  • Evaluation of COTS products to determine suitability for testing applications. 
  • To ensure that best practice is followed to achieve maximum levels of safety, quality and efficiency are sustained. 
  • Drive continual improvement and best practice in Engineering processes. 
  • Technical base report writing and presentations. 
  • Continual improvement of testing strategies. 
  • Participate in lessons learnt with Software Product / Requisition teams and Software QA. 
  • Provide support for testing and commissioning, both onsite and offsite.

  • Degree / HND qualified in Computer Science or relevant Engineering discipline. 
  • Proven Software Testing background. 
  • Knowledge of real time embedded systems. 
  • Knowledge of PLC and SCADA systems. 
  • Knowledge of network configurations. 
  • Knowledge of network security techniques. 
  • Experience of working with codes of practice and national and international
    standards. 
  • Capable of working to and within the Contract articles. 
  • Communicate effectively in verbal and written English. 
  • Capable of multi-tasking and working to agreed schedules and be 'commercially aware' in engineering solutions. 
  • Flexibility to work across a various range of Company products within the software discipline.
  • Experience within the Oil & Gas industry. 
  • Member of the BCS or other professional body. 
  • Experience of communication protocols such as OPC Modbus, Profibus, TCP/IP and CANOpen. 
  • Offshore working experience.
